On the morning of 26 August 2026, a mass of ice and rock broke away high on the Nepal–China border above the Trishuli valley. The collapse triggered a landslide that briefly dammed the river, then gave way. The water and debris that came down the valley arrived with almost no warning.
Villages along the river in Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading were swept away — houses, footbridges, irrigation channels and the road links that these communities depend on to reach anywhere else. Whole settlements that stood on the valley floor are simply not there in the satellite imagery taken later that day.
As of 28 August 2026, Nepal Police put the toll at 389 dead, with more than 900 people still missing. Survivors are sheltering in the surrounding hills, and the immediate needs are clean water, medicine, food and something dry to sleep under.
Rotary District 3300 is raising funds for relief supplies distributed by Rotary clubs and partners working in the affected districts. Nothing is held back for overheads, and we publish where the money goes as distributions happen.
